WELCOME!
Thank you for stopping by my website. I am a communications professional with extensive experience in talk radio, sports game presentation, and multimedia reporting and producing. I also have experience in sports reporting and play-by-play, television weather, and in music radio.
I currently serve as the host of The Jasen Sokol Show, the midday news/talk show on 1590 WAKR in Akron, OH. Over the last four years, I've developed a loyal following by focusing on local issues, welcoming all viewpoints to the conversation, and avoiding the usual "hot takes" and angry tone often found on talk radio. The guests on my show have ranged from presidential candidates to musicians and just about everything in between.
When I'm not on the radio, I also serve as the public address announcer for the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, the on-field host for the Lake County Captains of the Midwest League (full season A baseball), and the race announcer for the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series.
Before I hosted my own show, I served as the morning traffic reporter, web editor, and news reporter for the Rubber City Radio Group in Akron, OH. My reports were heard each day on 1590 WAKR, 94.9 WQMX, and 97.5 WONE. I have also done play-by-play announcing for WAKR's coverage of high school football and basketball and hosted WAKR's high school football scoreboard show.
I graduated from Kent State University in 2013 with a Master's degree in broadcast journalism. While there, I reported and produced Morning Edition for public radio station WKSU. I also reported, anchored, and did weather for award-winning student-run television station TV2 KSU. For my required professional project, I created, anchored, and produced Portage Pulse, a weekly public affairs program that gave me the opportunity to interview lawmakers and other civic leaders including a rare interview with the president of Kent State University.
Before Kent State, I graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a degree in Political Science with a minor in Broadcasting and Mass Communication. While there, I served as news director, morning show host, DJ, and sports play-by-play announcer for student-run radio station WBWC. To learn more about me, read my extended bio.
